We provide counselling support for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Asperger’s Syndrome. Our mission is to provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals with ASD and Asperger’s to explore their feelings, behaviours, and experiences.

Asperger’s Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are both neurodevelopmental disorders that affect social interaction, communication, and behaviour.

Asperger’s Syndrome is a subtype of ASD that is usually characterized by difficulties in social interaction, limited interests, repetitive behaviours, and a heightened sensitivity to sensory input. People with Asperger’s may have difficulty reading social cues, such as facial expressions and body language, and may struggle with verbal and nonverbal communication. However, they may also have strong interests in specific topics and excel in areas such as math, science, and music.

ASD is a broader category of neurodevelopmental disorders that includes Asperger’s, as well as other subtypes such as Autistic Disorder, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified. People with ASD may have a range of symptoms and severity levels, but common features may include difficulty with social communication and interaction, repetitive behaviours, and restricted interests or activities.

It’s important to note that ASD and Asperger’s are now diagnosed under the umbrella term Autism Spectrum Disorder, as of the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition) published in 2013. This is because the diagnostic criteria for these disorders were found to overlap significantly, and clinicians now use the term ASD to encompass the wide range of symptoms and presentations that fall under this category.

At our counselling centre, we understand that individuals with ASD and Asperger’s may face unique challenges and difficulties in their daily lives, such as difficulties with social communication and interaction, sensory processing, and managing emotions. Our team of experienced counsellors is trained to work with individuals with ASD and Asperger’s, and we use evidence-based interventions to support our clients in achieving their goals.

Our services include individual counselling, family counselling, and group therapy. We also offer social skills groups for children and teens with ASD and Asperger’s, which provide a supportive environment for building social skills and making connections with others who share similar experiences.

We believe in a person-cantered approach to counselling, which means that we work collaboratively with our clients to identify their unique strengths and needs, and we tailor our interventions to meet those needs. We also understand that every individual with ASD and Asperger’s is unique, and we strive to provide individualized support that is sensitive to each person’s strengths and challenges.

Our counselling center is a warm and welcoming space, designed to provide a sense of comfort and safety for our clients. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment that is respectful of diversity and promotes equity and social justice.
